Waste Recycling Industry Queensland (WRIQ) invites you to the 2027 Future Waste Resources Symposium (FWR 2027),
taking place from 9–11 March 2027 at The Westin Brisbane.
Queensland’s Waste Strategy sets a clear direction for waste reduction and recycling, but delivering it will require significant decisions across policy, infrastructure, investment and the way recycling systems operate.
The Future Waste Resources Symposium 2027 (FWR 2027) will bring together leaders from industry, State government, local government and across the waste and recycling system for a practical and frank discussion about what it will take to turn Queensland’s Waste Strategy into measurable progress.
FWR 2027 will move beyond the targets themselves to tackle some of the harder questions facing Queensland. Which priorities need to come first? What infrastructure do we actually need, where should it go and who should drive investment? Why aren’t households recycling more? What needs to happen to make recycling commercially viable? And where do government, councils and industry need to do things differently?
The program will examine the realities of delivering a better recycling system across a state as large and diverse as Queensland. It will explore infrastructure capacity and planning, the different challenges facing metropolitan and regional communities, household participation and contamination, viable markets for recycled materials, procurement, product stewardship, investment and the economics of recycling.
Rather than simply identifying the issues, FWR 2027 will focus on what is working, where the challenges remain and where greater progress is needed. Practical case studies and rapid-fire presentations will sit alongside robust panel discussions, with speakers and participants encouraged to test assumptions, challenge current approaches and share lessons from Queensland and elsewhere.
FWR 2027 will bring these discussions together to identify practical solutions, explore where action is needed and help move the conversation from strategy towards delivery.
